South Africa Dominate Sri Lanka to Claim 223-Run Victory in First Test

Durban: South Africa secured a commanding 223-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

After Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first, their bowlers restricted South Africa to 191 runs in the first innings. However, Sri Lanka's response was disastrous, as they were bowled out for just 42 runs—their lowest-ever total in Test cricket—shattering their hopes of gaining an early advantage.

In their second innings, South Africa declared at 366/5, setting Sri Lanka an imposing target of 516 runs for victory. Despite a spirited fightback, Sri Lanka's second innings ended at 282, handing South Africa a comprehensive win.

South African pacer Marco Jansen delivered an exceptional performance, taking 11 wickets in the match, earning him the Player of the Match award.

The Proteas will look to seal the series in the second Test, while Sri Lanka will aim to bounce back and level the series.
